The dog figurine is new, fresh from the kiln though it was cast from a vintage mold probably dating back to the '70s or '80s, that was handed down from a former manufacturer.
In those days, a large quantity of horse, dog and other animal figurines was produced in Japan and exported worldwide under various brand names, such as Shafford, Napco or Lefton. Those manufacturers now no longer exist. However, some of their casting molds have been passed down and some animal species are still being made in small quantities in a small factory run by a husband and wife team, where this Shiba figurine was also made.

There is a sticker on the belly that reads "Seto-yaki"(瀬戸焼). 'Seto-yaki' is a general term for porcelain products made in Seto Japan, which includes all kinds of porcelain items such as animal, human, Disney and more figurines, and also chinaware for practical as well as decorative purposes. "Seto" is a city located in the center of Japan and also the center for Japan's ceramics industry.
