Small plaque (which can form a pendant) in carved and openwork nephrite jade, decorated with two birds or phoenix surrounded by foliage patterns, from China, from the late Qing Dynasty period at the end of the 19th-20th centuries.

is a rock composed mainly of a variety of amphibole, actinote. It is one of two rocks called jade, the other being jadeitite, which is mostly made up of jadeite, a variety of pyroxene. Nephrite is an ornamental stone, used in a wide variety of jewelry or decorative items.
