*NOTE TO EBAY - THESE BOXES ARE EMPTY AND DO NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED AMMUNITION COMPONENTS*

Up for your consideration is a two-piece set of empty replica WWII 50 ROUND CAL. .22 BALL, LONG RIFLE, M24 MILITARY CONTRACT BOXES with a REMINGTON ARMS CO. label.

During WWII, most of the Caliber .22 ammunition was procured from commercial sources and used primarily for training. The .22 Ball Long Rifle rounds were required to have non-corrosive primers, and came packed in standard commercial 50 round cartons with U.S. Government property markings and lot numbers. The bullets were lead, while the cases were a mix of brass or steel. Then, early in 1944 the Ordnance Department was asked by the Air Forces to develop a hunting round for the survival rifle used in the E12 and E14 Survival Kits. Development work was started in September 1944 by Remington Arms which resulted in the T42 cartridge. The T42 had a jacketed bullet (FMJ) to meet the terms of the Hague Convention. Production of the T42 cartridge began in January 1945. In May 1945, the T42 round was officially adopted as the M24 , at which time the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) requested an additional 1.5M rounds of the T42/M24 cartridge for use in automatic pistols equipped with silencers. Both the T42 and M24 cartridges were packed in 50 round cartons with either commercial or government contract labels, which were then sealed inside foil-lined paper wrappers with nomenclature printed on the outside.

Each single purchase is for two unassembled cartons with a Remington Arms BALL, CAL. .22 LONG RIFLE, M24 label. The lot numbers are hand stamped on the labels prior to shipping, either matching my original box, or if you prefer, I can match the lot number of a spam can or crate that you may have. The cartons will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions. I had a lot of these made, so if you want multiple sets, just change the auction quantity before you click on the "Buy It Now" button.
