I AM NOT SELLING A KIT only a new, full-size Air Trails PLANconstruction article for scratch-building your own 32" MIDGET MUSTANG UC.

Pop shared that a 1949 issue of Air Trails always remained a favorite memory of his youth because it featured Cal Smith's UC scale model of the famous and beautiful LONG MIDGET MUSTANG. Then a 1951 issue of Air Trails featured the article "BIRTH OF THE MIDGETS" which pictured the plane being held back before takeoff by Cal Smith (seen on the left). This was history-making.

Cal used an Ohlsson & Rice .29 on glow plug for power. Pop’s parents had just given him an O & R .29 for Christmas, so this model was well suited for a boy's daydreaming. But any .15 engine will do today.

The model has a 32" span, a thin symmetrical stunt airfoil, and the beauty that only Goodyear Pylon Racers could offer in the 1940s. Cal Smith worked with the builder of the racer to get his model exactly right. He did the same with his SWEE PEA racer model that appeared in Mechanix Illustrated. I also offer the PLANS of that V-tailed Racer.

I AM NOT SELLING A KIT, only new, full-size copy of the PLAN + several sheets of scale documentation and a copy of the Air Trails article "Birth of the Midgets". My last 2 photos are of a set of plans I can offer of a 52" semi-scale stunt model of the MIDGET MUSTANG.

YOU ARE PURCHASING A NEW, CLEAN, WHITE, FULL-SIZE COPY OF THE ORIGINAL AIR TRAILS PLAN, CONSTRUCTION ARTICLE, AND SCALE DOCUMENTATION FOLDED AND IN A MANILA ENVELOPE.

I also have full-bodied and profile scale model plans of all three of the pylon racers shown in Cal Smith's artwork on a back cover of an old Air Trails that I can list for you separately. Each of the models is in the same scale with a 32" wing span.
