Italo Svevo (1861-1928) was an Italian writer, businessman, playwright, and short story writer.  He had a close friendship with James Joyce (1882-1941), the celebrated Irish Novelist, short story writer, poet, teacher, and literary critic. In 1927 Svevo delivered a lecture giving his perspective on his friend's work.  The lecture was in italian.  At Christmas 1950 Stanislaus Joyce translated it for James Laughlin as a keepsake for his friends.  It was published in an edition of 1600.  The copy offered for sale is #803.  Softcover, 3"x4", 60+ unnumbered pp., pictures of Joyce on front cover and Svevo on back cover.  Covers worn have edge wear; covers detached from book (if it was originally attached); light page toning.  Good copy of a unique and scarce miniature volume.  No copies of 1927 1st available online. 1950 Milan ed. listed at $125.
