Hallow-backed torso of a priapic figure made from dense orange-brown Nile silt. The  figure wears a long belted chiton replete with folds which he holds up with his right hand to reveal his genitalia. In his left hand he holds a date palm. The bottom of a long curly beard is visible above his chest. The figure's navel and kegs are revealed from thigh to calf. Slight traces of white lime was remain. Crisp detail.  
The taerracotta was formally British property acquired in the 1970s-80s. 
Background: Priapos was associated with the fertility of vegetable crops. He was also considered the protector of sheep, goats, bees, the vine and all garden produce.
