This listing is for a 17 g bar of alloy containing 49% bismuth, 18% lead, 12% tin and 21% indium, giving it an extremely low melting temperature of 58 °C. It has the same composition as the leaded Chip Quik SMD desoldering alloy but I am selling it at a fraction of the price per unit mass of alloy, the caveat being that I cannot supply it in the form of very thin sticks but rather small, triangular bars. I cast the bars myself so there will be slight variations in shape but the weight will always be at least what is stated in the listing. Some areas may be slightly sharp; if so, do not be tempted to file them because the dust would contain poisonous lead. Reforming the bar into smaller, thinner pieces by melting parts into the groove formed by a folded piece of paper, for example, will make the alloy easier to use for desoldering applications.

The alloy is useful in aiding desoldering of electronics components by prolonging the time before the solder re-solidifies after melting. It is also useful in the desoldering of particularly heat-sensitive components.

I have several bars of slightly different weights and will adjust the price according to the weight of the bar being sold. The photograph is of a bar weighing about 40 g - the appearance of the bar purchased will vary.

I also sell a cheaper alternative desoldering alloy, in a more conventional wire form, comprising 58% bismuth and 42% tin which has a higher melting temperature (138-145 °C) but many users find to be acceptable for their purposes: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193121882027

To prolong the working time before the solder re-solidifies, consider preheating the circuit board.
