Feature:

1. VL6180X is a time-of-flight ranging sensor. The sensor contains a very small laser source and a matching sensor. VL6180X can detect the "time of flight" or the time required for the laser to recover the sensor to calculate the distance.
2. Unlike most distance sensors that rely on reflected light intensity or reflection angle to determine the distance, VL6180 uses an accurate clock to measure the time it takes for light to bounce off the surface. Since it uses a very narrow light source, which is different from ultrasonic sonar. Unlike traditional infrared distance sensors, you can't tell if an object is close because there is no linear problem or "dual imaging." Therefore, the VL6180X is more accurate.
3. VL6180 module is recommended to handle distances from 5mm to 100mm. Due to its small size, the sensor module is easy to use in any robot or interactive project. You can use it with any 3-5V power supply or logic microcontroller.
4. Integrated intelligent optical module for proximity sensing, ranging and other functions.
5. Fast, accurate distance ranging. Measure the absolute range from 0 to 100mm or more. Based on object-independent self-illuminating beam reflection measurements, measurements over 100 mm can be used in some extremely desirable target reflectance and environment, but are not guaranteed.
6. I2C interface for device control and data, two programmable GPIO.

Specification:

Pin Definition:
Power supply pin:
VIN - Power input pin. Voltage input range 3-5V;
2v8 - Output port, 2.8V output voltage generated by the on-board voltage regulator processing the input voltage of VIN;
GND - Power supply ground;

I2C communication pin:
SCL - I2C clock pin, connected to the master SCL;
SDA - I2C data pin, connected to the master SDA;

Control pin:
GPIO - Pin that the sensor uses to indicate the data ready. Note that the pin output is 0-2.8V high and low level. This pin may not be applied to boards such as for Arduino (These boards are 3.3 or 5V high level), need to add level conversion if applied.
SHDN - Shutdown pin of the sensor. By default it is pulled high. There is a level conversion diode so you can use 3-5V logic on this pin. When the pin is pulled low, the sensor enters shutdown mode.
