Highlights include: Starting at Perth in 1961, with a wide variety of locomotive classes - including ex-LMS and ex-LNER Pacifics, viewed at Perth General Station and the locomotive depot. A4s and other locomotive classes at work on the East Coast main line between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, together with workings between Glasgow, Perth, Forfar and Aberdeen. Carlisle to Hawick, Galashiels and the Peebles branch plus scenes at Jedburgh, followed by Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. From St. Boswells, the line to Kelso, Tweedmouth and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Disc 2 starts at Perth in 1961, with a wide variety of locomotive classes - including ex-LMS and ex-LNER Pacifics, viewed at Perth General Station and the locomotive depot. 

Disc 3 is filmed almost entirely on 16mm colour film taken between 1962 and 1966 and shows A4s and other locomotive classes at work at Edinburgh and Aberdeen plus Glasgow, Perth and Aberdeen. 

Disc 4 includes scenes at Stranraer, Ayr and the Waterside mining complex with its associated heavy coal trains.
