Genuine Malachite is cool to the touch, heavier than many gemstones (Due to it's high copper content) and has natural, even color variation in the banding.  Fake or imitation Malachite is lightweight (Even the glass ones are not as heavy) & has uneven banding or very light banding.  Malachite with Dark BLACK banding or "Spots" is definitely NOT genuine!
