Beautiful Bowen’s map of the Russian Empire from “A Complete System of Geography”. With an elaborate allegorical cartouche and a compass rose. Decorative map, from St. Petersburg and the Caspian Sea to Kamtchatka and the Arctic Circle. Also includes Tibet, Korea and part of China, with the Great Wall shown.
Emanuel Bowen was a printer, publisher and map engraver in London during the mid-eighteenth century. From 1714 onwards he worked in London and began to produce some of the finest and most attractive maps of the century.
