Basement Jaxx vs. Metropole Orkest  |  CD

USED PROMO CD in colour card sleeve in VERY GOOD Condition

As a teenager, Basement Jaxx's Felix Buxton was forbidden by his vicar father from watching Top of the Pops, and instead had to sing in the church choir and take violin lessons. A career making rambunctious house music could have been seen partly as rebellion – and as if to prove that we all become our parents in the end, Buxton (with fellow Jaxx Simon Ratcliffe) has returned to his roots by rescoring a selection of Basement Jaxx cuts for orchestra. It is a worthy curio: there's the novelty of hearing a choral Where's Your Head At? backed by crashing drums and harpsichord, transformation into stately pomp that suits Red Alert well, while a playful Bingo Bango sounds endearingly like the soundtrack to a cartoon chase scene. A curio is all it is, though. Jules Buckley's arrangements are inventive, but Basement Jaxx's weaker recent material proves impervious to improvement. Do Your Thing sounds chintzy, and with Good Luck hoves into view, one is only reminded that, at their peak, orchestral grandeur was just one of Basement Jaxx's many powers. (The Guardian)
