The prefect Bonsai . Maples have fibrous root systems & love to be grown in a sandy loam soil that has a small amount of compost incorporated into it but they will grow in a wide range of soil types that drain well. Mulching is beneficial to retain moisture in the soil over the summer months.  Maples can be grown in full sun to partly shaded positions. The dissected & fine leaf varieties prefer to be planted in shadier positions.   Maples can be pruned to maintain shape and to remove any unsightly branching this should be done once the tree has lost its leaves in the winter period.

Acer palmatum 
Fast growing in the first few years slowing when mature. Intense red autumn foliage & green summer foliage. Large palmate leaves. Grows to 6-7 metres.
