Welcome to this listing of an incredible scratch built wooden dump/tipper truck barn find. It's without doubt based on the Tonka Mighty Tipper/Dump Truck. The type you find in quarries and used in mining etc. A site truck.

This one though has been scratch built but somebody very skilled. The construction of the body, wheels, tipper is all wood, either pine or ply. The bumpers, front and back, the grill, access steps and the axles are all made from either angle iron or aluminium.

I really do have to emphasis the scale of this monster as it doesn't really come out in the images. It's a monster and heavy to boot, weighing about 14k

Max length - 72cm (28.25")
Max width -  37.5cm (14.75")
Max height - 33cm (13.00")

I do not know if this was originally made as a toy or to de displayed but it is now a highly collectable and desirable mantique. There is not another one out there and this thing is unique. It's exceptionally well built and totally oversized making it highly collectable and saleable. The perfect present for a site manager or an operator of these vehicles.

I would look incredible in any man-cave, a garage/mechanics or even a smart office or showroom (you would need a big shelf though!)

It has a battery compartment underneath and the whole thing is neatly wired up so that the front headlights and back lights would all work and also a warning light on the top. There are 3 switches on top of the cab, one of which is missing the case.

If you look inside the cab you can see the steering wheel is made from an old tap handle from a radiator or gas bottle maybe. Either way it's quite an old handle. It helps to date this truck too.

I am saying 1960's going by the grill and style of it but there are no stamps or marks to indicate the age so it's open to discussion.

So some time should be spent on this electrics of this truck. I'm hopeless with that kind of thing and would probably make it worse. It's gonna involve a bit of soldering and gluing and finding the right batteries for it but once done and wired up correctly you would be adding some considerable value to it.

There is a loose screw on one of the tipper supports, I can't get a screwdriver in to tighten it due to the position (just like real mechanics!) but that's all it needs.

There's obvious scratches etc to the yellow paint but that's all part of the look now and it's commensurate with the age of it and adds to the authenticity. It would be very hard to fake this type of wear.

There is also some rusting to some of the metal work so it would also pay to do some sympathetic restoration to these bits but i am leaving this as restoration is always subjective. I personally would do very little to the body work. Just some wire wool and a polish. I like the rust and it's part of the character. I would be horrified if this was stripped back and repainted. My recommendation is to do as little as possible and just get those lights working. Anything like stripping it back and repainting will severely devalue the piece.

All in all, the condition of this truck is excellent. It has the perfect vintage look.

If you check out the last image, you can see the dusty dirty condition that i found this in. Again this backs up the fact that this is quite an old piece. I just spent a few hours cleaning off the grime.

Hard to put a value on and this is certainly a case of "what somebody is willing to pay". I have priced it at what i think is a fair price and includes free postage.

This will appeal to a certain type of person and i'm pretty sure that there are quite a few people who will see this as a "must have piece" so get in early with a sensible offer or just snap it up because you won't find another i can promise you that.
