Phosphosiderite has the most amazing purple Orchid color. The finest grade gemstones currently come from Chile and it is a perfect choice for use in jewelry.
Phosphosiderite is a naturally occurring form of iron phosphate, it has also been known as Metastrengite although this term is now virtually obsolete.
Phosphosiderite is composed of phosphorous and iron oxide hence its name, the first syllable PHOSPHO from phosphorous and the second from the Greek 'SIDERos' meaning 'iron'. It is said to be also known as 'piedrea voga' meaning pink stone, and 'la rosa voca' meaning pink rock.
Phosphosiderite has also been found in Germany, USA, Portugal and Argentina.
Phosphosiderite is a colorful and fascinating material. Being graded 3.5 to 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness means it must be treated with care.
