These European 7" take up reels are designed with an easy-thread flange design.  Finally, people who don't have square fingers, or those the size of a pencil, can thread them up with ease with the flange design and the tape end slots in the reel.  Makes it easy!  We always wondered why so many reels are designed making it so difficult to thread the tape onto the reels. A round hole is all that is needed, yet the manufacturers went with narrow slots or a frustratingly small roundish hole!
