Kill the Messenger (2014) A journalist at a minor newspaper, Gary Webb (played by Jeremy Renner), gets a tip off that a witness at trial of a drug dealer is a government informant, and is importing drugs into the US. After much investigation he uncovers evidence that suggests that the CIA are allowing US-backed rebels in Nicaragua to sell large quantities of drugs in the US in exchange for arms. Once he publishes the story, his world is turned upside down... The Shipping News (2001) An emotionally-beaten man with his young daughter moves to his ancestral home in Newfoundland to reclaim his life.

A family tragedy causes tensions to run high and secrets to come out. The Weston women will be forced to examine themselves and their lives whether they want to or not. Welcome to Osage County, Oklahoma in the sweltering heat of August. Kill the Messenger (2014) Based on the True story of Journalist Gary Webb. The film takes place in the mid 1990s, when Webb uncovered the CIA's past role in importing huge amounts of cocaine into the U.S. that was aggressively sold in ghettos across the country to raise money for the Nicaraguan Contras rebel army. Despite enormous pressure not to, Webb chose to pursue the story and went public with his evidence, publishing the series "Dark Alliance". As a result he experienced a vicious smear campaign fueled by the CIA. At that point Webb found himself defending his integrity, his family, and his life. The Shipping News (2001) It's a film about an insecure man who starts a life only to see it fall apart in front of him. As he attempts to rebuild his life he meets some interesting people and learns things about his past and his family's past that he would not have been able to even imagine if nobody had told him.
