This softcover book with 128 full color pages retraces the life of explorers and great travelers in the Middle Ages.
The first explorers who come first in mind are the 16th century sailors and discoverers like Magellan or Christopher Columbus or the adventurers of Africa and the 19th century Asia. It is often unclear that the Middle Ages also gave great travelers, often missionaries, ambassadors or traders, who recorded in writing their travels and observations.
The most important of them are here gathered and abundantly illustrated: The Franciscans Jean de Plan-Carpin and Guillaume de Rubouck who will travel the immense Mongolian Empire in the 13th century; Marco-Polo, the Venetian merchant author of a famous story of his adventures on the silk road and China, as well as other less known from the beginning of the fourteenth century as Jourdain Cathala of Séverac and Odoric of Pardenone to whom we owe descriptions of India and China.
