Let me tell you, it makes sense why this combo is Joseph "Satch" approved all the way through! The cleans are nice and round and clear, just like you would expect from a tube amp. It's also transparent enough, i.e. doesn't color your tone too much, so that it will take your pedals well. Not only that, but the amp has an effects loop on the back! So you can put your time based effects like delay and chorus through the loop.
And even if you are thinking about putting some overdrives and distortions through the front of this amp, you REALLY don't need to if you don't want to! Go from the clean channel to the "crunch" channel and you will see why ! This amp does overdrive / distortion really well ! It's very muscular, punchy and warm ! It's terrific for all kinds of rhythm playing for all kinds of metal, hard rock, and grunge, to name a few. Anything heavy, and this amplifier is made for it. Overall, the crunch channel is more than super use-usable and musical, with a nice range going from real mean to even meaner !
And the high gain? Well....it's got the heritage and the family name that is backed up by its amazing sound! You can shred your leads and solos to your heart's content! The peripheral harmonics on this thing are also so amazing ...it really does sing ! And with sustain for days !
I'm sure I don't need to tell you any more about the JSX....you've already done your research and know exactly what you're looking at ! This unit has quite a ton of mojo with Professor Satchafunkalus' imprint and character oozing from the amp !
