Slightly Ricky styled bass with Musicman HB & bridge

A very tidy looking and remarkably sweet playing Ric styled bass; I planned it to try and get the tone a lot of people have asked about that I got with the old Keiper I used on A night out in Langney on you tube:

That distinctive growl and grunt... anyway even just through a Roland cube treble guitar amp it is bang on with a good snarl when you dig in good and hard.
You might spot I have fitted a bridge further back than standard; this is because to give perfect balance the neck comes further into the body and the bridge is moved back the same distance.

Also to enhance the balance for no neck dive at all, you will see I extended the upper strap-button.

Any electric wiring pattern is fairly simple for a one pickup guitar, but here I changed it a bit and joined all the earth returns a bit differently.

The only pickup is a massive heavy humbucker and with these electrics it is giving exactly the strong mid range growl I hoped it might give.

Set up gone well so far; a few frets were sitting high and killed the note above them but I settled them down and the truss rod allowed me to take some excess relief out of the neck, except I flattened it too far and lost clarity in the first five frets, though with crystal clear notes above the twelfth fret... all singing sweetly now with an even clarity all the way, but will be checked and adjusted a few more times this week.

I scalloped the edges of the neck between the frets which makes the already narrow jazz bass neck seem even narrower and faster to get around on; and the scalloping lets you fly by feel more than eye... though if you need to look but hate wearing glasses to play then the enamel braille spots I have given it will show you where to jump to... works well for us older geezers.

Thanks for having a look at this fairly unusual bass guitar, and if you read right through and made sense of my long description, go on Amazon and find my novel of travels, music and romance "Virginia to Greece" out on paperback and kindle.

Thanks,
Mark Phillips.......

And please check out my three books: Virginia to Greece, Bobcat's big Adventure and On Davidstow Moor, that are all out on Amazon now.
