2021 linocut by Bill Payne,7"x5",signed and dated,edition of 25 of "Skating", very much influenced by the great Grosvenor School of art linocutter Eveline Syme.Eveline Syme is linked to two other Australian Grosvenor school of art linocutters,Dorrit Black and Eveline's friend and traveller, Ethel Spowers.Eveline was in fact born in Surrey in 1888, but educated in Melbourne. She and Ethel travelled to Britain from Australia and enrolled in Grosvenor School of art in 1929 and were taught linocutting by Claude Flight.Both achieved fame with their works.As did Dorrit Black.This linocut by, Bill Payne, born in 1951 and living in Worcestershire is based on Eveline's 1930 linocut of skaters.Skating and other sports were well suited to the energy  and style of linocutting .1 sold.
