Cap Materials
The caps are made from different materials including plastic, rubber, silicone or PVC Vinyl. All caps have a degree of flex in them even those made from plastic which are similar to the flex found in a milk bottle cap, but obviously of a much higher grade of plastic. Two sizes (55mm, 60.5mm) are made from a semi-rigid plastic which is stiffer. The PVC vinyl caps and silicone caps are very flexible. Due to the nature of the material PVC vinyl caps may appear slightly distorted when removed, this is normal and they gain their true shape when put back on. All caps can be washed in water to clean them if needed. Full specifications are shown in the table below.
Cap Selection and Measuring
As mentioned cap size is the internal diameter of the cap, which is the external diameter of the lens housing. To choose the right size cap measure the external housing diameter (including any ridges) with a ruler by placing it across the middle of the lens, verify the measurement by repeating in the opposite direction, a calliper can also be used. Another simple and accurate way of measuring is using the paper strip method (see last photo). Simply cut a thin strip of paper and wrap it around the lens housing, ensure it is tight then put a mark where it crosses the starting edge of the strip underneath it. Remove the strip and measure the distance from the starting edge to the mark you made. To get the diameter simply take this measurement and divide it by 3.14. This is the circumference to diameter calculation.

Cap Compatibility
Binoculars
Suitable for a wide variety of binoculars, from compact 25mm binoculars up to large binoculars in the 80mm range. Caps are available for the objectives and the eyecups.
Monoculars
These will fit a wide variety of monoculars from 25mm monoculars up to 60mm with caps for the objective lens and the eyecup.
Spotting Scopes
Suitable for many sizes of spotting scopes in the 50mm, 60mm, 70mm and 80mm range. Caps are available for the objective lens and the eyecup.
Cameras
Can be used to cover a wide variety of camera lenses, including SLR, DSLR, Compact, Action, Bike, Dive, CCTV, CMOS, CCD etc. They can also be used for video cameras.
Rifle Scopes
Suitable for a wide range of rifle scopes with caps available for the objective lens and the eyecup.
Microscope Eyepieces / Accessories
Suitable for a wide variety of microscope eyepieces with caps for the top lens of the eyepiece and the bottom nosepiece barrel. They are also suitable for microscope accessories and cameras.
Telescope Eyepieces / Accessories
These caps are suitable for a wide range of 1.25", 2" and 0.965" eyepieces and accessories. There are caps for the top lens of the eyepiece and the bottom nosepiece barrel. Nosepiece caps are also suitable for accessories such as Barlow Lenses*, Diagonals and Adapters. The 32mm cap fits 1.25" nosepiece barrels, the 51-52mm cap fits 2" nosepiece barrels, the 24mm will fit 0.965" nosepieces. The caps are also suitable for CMOS and CCD cameras used in astrophotography and also for finderscopes.
*On some 1.25" barlows the lens is housed in a narrower black section at the end of the nosepiece barrel. If your barlow has this it will not fit the standard 1.25" nosepiece cap, you will need a smaller cap. The black section varies in diameter between barlows but is generally between 28-30mm.
