When you push ANY fill probe or dust plug into the quick fill port of your air cylinder, if the probe and orings are dry, the orings can shred and these tiny "shreds" get forced into the fill valve which can cause a leak and eventually stops you from filling the air cylinder.  This is the most common cause for leaks on air cylinders that we see coming into our Service Workshops. Put a few drops of lube on your fill probe for easier insertion (behave yourself!)  ;-) 

Only special lubricants/oil/grease specifically designed for pcp-air guns should be used on your fill probe. These are sophisticated oils specially formulated for this purpose. Of the hundreds of oils available, only a few have the proper viscosity, lubricity & lack of acids for use in fine quality pcp-air guns.  Our workshop uses our Professional Airgun Lube - it is perfectly inert (chemically inactive), silicone based and perfectly safe to use on your PCP - even on the fill probe seals.
