Joh Widdicomb Oak Welsh Dresser Style Step-Back Cupboard

A superb quality two-part oak Welsh dresser style step-back cupboard with wonderful patina and ample storage space. The upper section has a molded cornice, wrought iron cup hooks, a planked backboard and two shelves with plate beads to prevent plates from sliding off. The lower base has a thick, molded top, five cock-beaded drawers, turned supports and a lower pot shelf.   

This well-made cupboard is constructed with dovetail joinery and classic brass hardware. Step-back dressers were used in kitchens to hold dishes, cutlery and pots and the top surfaces were used as a server to dress prepared foods onto platters and plates.
