The Sussex Carol
When it comes to sweet singing of the choir , there is no sweeter Christmas moment than a beautiful rendition of the Sussex Carol. It has been performed by choirs for generations and brings seasonal joy to people all over the world.
The words were originally published in 1684 by Irish Bishop Luke Wadding in his collection, Small Garland ' of Pious and Godly Songs. The words and melody we generally hear toady is the Vaughan Williams version of 1919 .He first heard the carol whilst travelling the length and breadth of England , collecting and transcribing the words and tunes of traditional folk songs and carols.
