This is a rare Taizan Kyoto Japan Meiji era 12" vase glazed in the Art Nouveau style "atomic" yellow and orange colors and hand painted with moriage applied gold and white chrysanthemums. It also has the fine gold and moriage classic Kyoto Satsuma style paintings from the shoulders to the tiny mouth of the vase. Although it is not signed, there are examples of this exact design shape and size of vase which are signed by the Master Taizan Yohei IX (1856-1922). He was considered one of the finest Kyoto potters and artists.  His work was displayed and brought many kudos in the 1892 Chicago World Fair.
The Taizan factory started in the 17th century by the Takahashi family of Awata, with Master painter Taizan I and ended with the death of the Master painter Taizan IX in 1922. After Japan opened to trade with the rest of the world in 1854; Taizan started exporting their wares worldwide along with Kinkozan and Satsuma and became well known for the artistic quality of their work. This beautiful work is now rare and sought after by collectors of fine antique Japanese pottery and porcelain.
