Derby Silver Company

SQUIRREL NUT PICK (6)

The company was founded by Edwin Ludlow Brittin
in 1872-73 in Derby, CT.
Brittin was born in Madison, NJ on February 14, 1848.
He died March 19, 1881.
Brittin was originally a salesman for the firm of Redfield & Rice in New York City.
He was issued a design patent #8846 on December 14, 1875. (See last photo)

In the 1883 Derby Silver Company catalogue this design was featured and called "Squirrel."
The charming design depicts a squirrel amid flowers and grasses.

This set of six picks includes four which were manufactured prior to 1875
("Patent applied for" stamped on back) and two which were manufactured after the patent was issued.

All six are in excellent condition with signs of wear typical of their age.

All six picks are unmonogrammed.

Each pick is 4 5/8" long.

The six picks total 2.3 oz.
