This is a beautiful large iron sculpture of a mare and foal. Date and place of casting is CCCP (USSR)1972, shown on the base. The sculpture features beautiful definition and detail, particularly the texture of the horses skin.
This high quality statue is a hot cast recast of an original produced using the 'lost wax' process and has a sleek black texture finish.
The attention to detail is absolutely superb and the sculpture, set on a patinated iron base, is extremely lifelike.
Étienne Maurice Falconet is the French sculptor who designed the statue of Peter the Great mounted on the Thunder Stone situated outside the Summer Palace in St Petersburg.
