    Catalog No. FD-17

This poster, known as “Snake Lady,” represents the third use of the central image on a Family Dog poster. In this case, the central image is much larger than on the FD-17A and is surrounded by an oval of lettering. The interesting background design was created by spray painting through a lace doily. The original print run of this poster numbers 1,000 and exists in two color variations. It is unknown how many of each color were printed, but the silver variant seems to be much scarcer than the gold version. In either case, this poster is very hard to find in top condition, and carries a corresponding price tag. Many copies that we see today have had some sort of restoration done, usually in the corners to remove tack or staple holes.

The original poster was printed on vellum and carries no credits other than the artists’ credits. This poster exists in two types and both measure approximately 14″ x 20″.

Type 1 was printed in gold ink and is the more common variant.

Type 2 was printed using silver ink.

The second print poster was printed on vellum in gold ink and measures approximately 14″ x 20″. This poster carries the notation “17(2)” in the lower left corner and has the Bindweed Press credit in the lower right corner.

The third print poster was printed on uncoated index stock in gold ink. This poster measures approximately 14″ x 20″ and carries the notation “17(3)” in the lower left corner. The Bindweed Press credit has been deleted on this version.

There is a forgery of this poster that carries the “San Francisco Poster Co.” credit.

The original handbills come in four types. All were printed on thin paper and measure approximately 8″ x 11″.

Type A is printed on white paper in a pure purple ink.

Type B is printed on yellow paper in a reddish-purple ink.

Type C is printed on pink paper in a reddish-purple ink.

Type D is printed on yellow paper in a pure purple ink.
