Please note: the old dirty and
dried up fluid must be removed before a
fresh charge of Silicone Oil can be applied! The dashpot can be serviced as per photos of the service manual using the supplied 500K silicone oil. Also see photos of the manual of the FD 200 Damper Kit in case it is installed as you will need to remove it. Be careful so as not to spill the silicone oil that is inside the tank of the Damper Kit. The Damper Kit tank can only hold a maximum
of 2ml of 200K (not supplied, but available separately from my store). The relevant parts of the
manual have been reproduced in the photos to serve as an aid and to buyers. According to various remarks on audio forums, most tonearms can be serviced once the jacket of the dashport has been pulled off by hand or pried away using a Stanley Knife blade. There is a lot of information on the internet on how to get the jacket off (also see Audiokarma Forum for: SME 3009 Drops like a rock thread, etc)
Approximately 2ml in syringe. As tested, 500k or 500000 cSt silicone oil to be used for smooth tonearm cue lift movement and improvement in performance. After years of use the original fluid has dried up or dust and dirt are causing the fluid to become more frictional. Cleaning and applying fresh fluid is advisable to see if the problem can be resolved. For comparisons sake, 200k cSt has more or less the consistency of honey and 1 cSt is the viscosity of water and the analogy here is like dropping a spoon in a glass of water or a pot of honey.....the spoon takes a long time to sink to the bottom in honey! Unless you are a repair shop, all you need are 2ml and not the whole big bottle. Therefore, I am selling off my surplus stock in an easy to apply syringe (a needle is not required nor convenient ) and small quantities that an enthusiast would need! For 100K, 200K (for Damper tank), 300K (for a more slower drop or certain models of DUAL turntables) and 1M for the Series II Silicone Oil, please look at my other similar items for sale!
