Hand-made dining table made from solid wood by DJT Design.

This dining table has been designed to fit in with most modern houses or loft apartments and is based on the industrial look that was once used in so many factories but now carefully enhanced to meet modern day standards.

The one shown in the photograph is the smallest of four sizes and is intended to be placed where there is limited space or when a narrow stand-out piece of furniture is required, but it can still seat up to six people.

Its comprised of three pieces of FSC Premium kiln dried timber each of these are held together by four lengths of extruded aluminium which are sunk into the underside of the table with no protrusions.

The aluminium helps to keep the wood flat and more importantly they maintain a deliberate gap of approximately 8mm which transforms the table from a flat piece of timber into something that is far more interesting as it changes the design from two dimensional to three dimensional.

And these gaps allow the aluminium to become visible and add to the style of the table.

Like the first Ford car at the moment I only do one colour; a mixture of light and medium grey.

The timber is distressed so that it resembles drift-wood and allows the slightly raised grain to show through. This palette complement most styles of houses, apartments and penthouses.

If you look at these pictures from different angles of your screen you will notice how the colour of the tables changes when subjected to different light sources.

I use a combination of three coats of dye and three coats of flat finish wax on all surfaces even underneath the table and the flat wax finish allows the colour and finish to vary when light comes from various directions.

The wood is lightly sanded but knots, blemishes, and cracks are deliberately left as they are part of the woods history and they may become more prominent with age.

If possible I leave the timber-yard coding on the tables top surface although it may be quite faint.

There will be a certain amount of unevenness across both the width and length of the timber but I have tried to keep this to a minimum.

The ends of the table have a slight deliberate tilt and are left with an open and quite coarse grain.

There may be a colour variation in the lengths of wood which is a normal feature and no two tables will be the same.

Safety’ Care must be taken with young children because of the gaps between the sections of wood.

The black industrial legs are from the Hairpin Leg Company and are exceptionally well made.

While able to seat six people the table is deliberately made with 3 lengths of wood to a width of approximately 677 mm by 1800 long and 45 mm thick which means it fits into restricted spaces. If you are unsure about the table size and if it suits your requirements it may be helpful to use low contact masking tape on the floor and mark out the dimensions of the table but take care not to damage the floor or carpet.

Using this idea it would be possible to fit chairs around it and try different place fittings.

The other table sizes are.  Small wide table 875 mm wide by 1800 long and 45 mm thick, 4 lengths of wood, seats up to 6 people Price £980.00

Long narrow table 677 mm wide by 2400mm long and 45 mm thick, 3 lengths of wood, seats up to 8 people price £1180.00

Long wide table 875 mm wide by 2400mm long and 45 mm thick 4 lengths of wood, seats up to 8 people price £1460.00

All sizes are approximate.

The table tops are fully assembled and only the legs need to be fitted but the tops are quite heavy and even the smaller size would need two people to move around, so be careful?

The tables tops can be separated into single lengths of timber but this does mean there is more to assemble at a later stage, however if access is difficult this may be a useful option especially with the larger sizes; all components are numbered and colour coded for ease of assembly but this does require some DIY skills.

These products are hand-made and are very aesthetic in design, appearance and texture.

The tables are made to order only with a minimum of 6 weeks delivery after payment; apart from the one shown in the photographs which is already made and can be picked up with a timescale to to suit buyer subject to payment and buyer providing suitable transport. Apologies for this as I am still in the process of providing suitable packaging and a delivery system.
