A natural half Chocolate Opal nodule.
Chocolate Opal is found and formed within layers of volcanic ash and grouped in clusters of nodules. It is found and mined solely at Yita Ridge around 12 miles from Mezezo in Ethiopia. All of Ethiopias Opals are found in just a few square miles of opal rich fields and supply will therefore remain limited.
Chocolate Opal is considered to be one of the most striking and distinctive of opal varieties. It's fire can be of all the colours of the spectrum and the finest specimens display a vivid and intense play of colour.
These Chocolate Opal have beautiful colour plays of orange/red and green. They are priced not by weight or size but by quality of colour play. Most Chocolate Opal will contain visible internal fractures and crazing but are typically untreated.
