An original, unframed signed Burmese watercolour by Tin U of an Ekaw (Akha) Lady from Kengtung State in Eastern Burma, now known as Eastern Shan State, Kengtung being the capital thereof. The Ekaw - also known as Akha - are one of over 130 ethnic groups (referred to in neighbouring Thailand, where they also reside, as one of the hill tribes of Northern Thailand).

The painting - which is on cardboard - measures 34 x 25.5cm and is in very good condition with very slight foxing & browning. The artist has written the title in pencil underneath the painting, namely: "EKaw Woman (KENGTUNG STATE)". The colours are more vibrant than appear in the scan.

On the rear, at the top, is written in ink "Shan States of Burma 1947".
