金庸，（1924年2月6日—），香港「大紫荊勛賢」。原名查良鏞，江西省婺源縣人，出生於浙江海寧，當代著名作家、新聞學家、企業家、社會活動家，《香港基本法》主要起草人之一。金庸是新派武俠小說最傑出的代表作家，被普遍譽為武俠小說作家的「泰山北斗」，更有金迷們尊稱其為「金大俠」或「查大俠」。
1937年，金庸考入浙江一流的杭州高中，離開家鄉海寧。1939年金庸15歲時曾經和同學一起編寫了一本指導學生升初中的參考書《給投考初中者》，暢銷內地，這是此類書籍在中國第一次出版，也是金庸出版的第一本書。1941年日軍攻到浙江，金庸進入聯合高中，那時他17歲，臨畢業時因為寫諷刺黑板報《阿麗絲漫游記》被開除。
另一說是寫情書.1944年考入重慶國立政治大學外文系，因對國民黨職業學生不滿投訴被勒令退學，一度進入中央圖書館工作，后轉入蘇州東吳大學（今蘇州大學）學習國際法。抗戰勝利后回杭州進《東南日報》做記者，1948年在數千人參加的考試中脫穎而出，進入《大公報》，做編輯和收聽英語國際電訊廣播當翻譯。不久《大公報》香港版復刊，金庸南下到香港。建國不久，金庸為了實現外交家的理想來到北京，但由於種種原因而失望地回到香港，從而開始了武俠小說的創作。
從五十年代末——七十年代初，金庸共寫武俠小說15部，1972年宣布封筆，開始修訂工作。1981年后金庸數次回大陸，先后受到鄧小平、江澤民等領導人的接見，1985年任香港基本法起草委員會委員，1986年被任命為基本法起草委員會「政治體制」小組港方負責人，1989年辭去基本法委員職務，卸任《明報》社長職務，1992年到英國牛津大學當訪問學者，1994年辭去《明報》企業董事局主席職務。1999-2005年任浙江大學人文學院院長。
