ORIGINAL 1936 'CAPE COD & PLYMOUTH' PICTORIAL MAP COPYRIGHT THE CRAWFORD PRESS

This is just a great original piece.  I just picked up a small grouping of Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod related items.  A great chance to add some scarce items to any collection.  Anyone who follows my store, knows that I love to buy and sell pictorial maps.  I have been buying them for about a decade now and they have really become incredibly collectable these days.  When I found this one, I was very excited.  This pictorial map is incredibly scarce.  Worldcat shows one example at Harvard University.  In the databases, I have only been able to find one other example and that sold back in 2020 at an auction on Cape Cod (that one was trimmed to the map line and didnt have the complete margins that this one does).  There are none I can find anywhere on the internet.  This is a wonderful pictorial map of cape cod that really focuses on the sailing and 'pleasure craft' that are used throughout Cape Cod back in 1936.  Map measures 15 1/2 x 15 3/4 inches on complete original sheet measuring 17 1/4 x 17 3/4 inches.  Map is in excellent as printed condition with just a few spots of minor soiling in the margins.  Map shows some minor rippling which tells me it is not laid down in the frame.  Really a great example of this scarce map.  Original black frame is complimentary and ready to hang.  Frame measures 18 x 18 1/2 inches.  FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES!

For those not familiar with the artist his biography from the Nantucket Historical Society reads:"Henry Emerson Tuttle (1890-1946) is widely considered one of America’s greatest twentieth-century etchers of birds. Largely a self-taught artist, Tuttle suffered from a kidney disease as a child, leading him to spend large amounts of time quietly observing bird life in the woods. He would devote much of his career to drawing and making prints of birds, both from life and using stuffed specimens in his studio. On Nantucket, Tuttle showed his work at the Candle House Studio, the Easy Street Gallery, and the Kenneth Taylor Galleries. He was the first president of the Artists Association of Nantucket.
Tuttle received formal training at Yale University and the Slade School, London. He created his first published drypoint engraving in 1925, a medium that he would favor for the remainder of his career. In the 1930s and 1940s, he was Curator of Prints at the Yale University Art Gallery, a full member of the American Federation of Arts, the Brooklyn Society of Etchers, and the Chicago Society of Etchers. His legacy was honored posthumously with the 1948 Yale University Press publication of Emerson Tuttle: 50 Prints, which presents a complete catalogue of his drypoint engravings from 1921 to 1946."
