Porcelain cameo with the sleeping Erinia in gold-plated silver finger ring

Gold-plated silver ring. A round porcelain cameo with the profile of a sleeping Erinia is mounted on the ring’s bezel, decorated on the inside with a relief rosette. The porcelain insert is covered with cobalt enamel.

The Erinyes (greek: Eρινύες) – female deities of vengeance in ancient Greek religion. A formulaic oath in the Iliad invokes them as “the Erinyes, that under earth take vengeance on men, whosoever hath sworn a false oath”

The cameo is made of Parian porcelain from the British company Valentine Clays. Parian is a traditional English porcelain, it was invented in 1840 and is named after the Greek island of Paros (Greece), where the famous Paros marble was mined. Parian is a self-glazed translucent white porcelain with a smooth, silky surface.

Silver fitting is created using the classic lost wax model technique.

Gold-plated sterling silver, Parian porcelain, enamel.
