JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY RAKU TEA CADDY RIKKYU POTTERY in BOX.

Nice older vintage Japanese Raku glaze tea caddy. Could also be used as a small ginger jar but it’s intended for tea. Purchased from the estate of an older person who’s son lived in Japan and sent this as a gift decades ago. It’s was never used as far as I can tell. It’s in perfect condition except a chip in the inner stopper. Under the lid is a small stopper. If you don’t know it’s there it’s easy to open the caddy and have it fall out, which is what I assume happened. There is a red tassel adhered to the lid. It can be taken off if you don’t like it. I would take it off if I were displaying it. The piece is marked on the base but the mark was struck poorly and is hard to make out. It comes in a wood box from the potter. The wood lid had a crack that was repaired. The lid has Japanese script and seals on it. The script reads “Tea urn/jar Chatsubo Rikkyo” the upper seal reads “Tachikui ware”, the bottom seal is the seal of Rikkyo. The jar is about 5” high. It has a beautiful Raku glaze in a range of earth tones. It’s a very handsome piece. Great functional object or nice just as a display piece. Ships ASAP! Thanks
