{GRAIL ALERT} *Prototype* 1973 Hot Wheels Redline Revvers Camper NM *LOOK/READ*.

This sale is ONLY for the camper on the left. The other camper is only there for illustration purposes but is for sale in another listing. Notice that the camper on the right has stanchions which brace the platform on which the imitation propane tanks stand. The one on the left does not. I was told that this change came about because before Hot Wheels sat on the display shelves of collectors they were sold to young kids (!), and an unknown number were manufactured for testing purposes. Some of them were kept by employees and that is where this one came from. It was given to a friend of mine back when you could buy blistered redline cars at the burgeoning Hot Wheel gatherings in the early 80’s for $5.00 in a blister!  This employee told him the story of how the prototype/pre-production version had problems with the propane platform breaking off and so they added the stanchions to strengthen the platform. These pre-production campers are hard to find. In this condition where is another?

The manner in which these campers functioned is you hooked the metal hitches around a Hot Wheels rear axle and there was a rubber band on the inner workings of the ‘spare wheel’ at the back of the coach. You wound up the rubber band by turning the spare and the camper would push the car down the track! I have been told that they weren't very successful because the camper pushed 'pull' vehicles didn't handle curves very well and that is why they were manufactured for only one year and their consequent rarity.

I have approximately three hundred redline cars listed at present. Most of these cars are in exceptional condition. If you care to see what else I have for sale search my store for "redline."
