Caption reads: MAJORS YOUNGEST BATTING CHAMP. CHICAGO: Al Kaline, the Detroit Tigers' $35,000 Bonus Beauty, became the youngest Batting Champion in  Major League history this year when he led the American League with a .340 average. Kaline, born Dec. 19, 1934, is one day younger than was Ty Cobb when that greatest of all Detroit Heroes won his first American League Crown in 1907. Official figures compiled by the Home News Bureau revealed that Kaline also led the circuit with 200 hits and 321 total bases, in addition, he hit 27 home runs and scored 121 runs in 152 games. United Press Photo 12/17/1955.

Impeccible documentation. It does not get any better.

Kaline's record has stood for 67 years and will probably never be beaten.
