General Grant Apparel

Hiram Ulysses Grant was the 18th President of the United States, but he’s most famous for being the General in Chief of the Armies of the United States during the Civil War. He was a graduate of West Point with the intent of resigning after serving the minimum term. It was here that he got the middle initial ‘S’. In order to supplement his income for his family, he also took a series of civilian jobs, but the civilian sector offered no opportunity for Grant – he tried several jobs and failed at all of them. When the Civil War started he was in charge of training recruits. He had a good rapport with the men and upon promotion led several successful attacks on Confederate forts. At Fort Donelson, Grant made the demand “No terms except unconditional and immediate surrender,” which resounded across the North and made ‘Unconditional Surrender Grant’ a hero. He went on to be victorious at Shiloh, Vicksburg, and other key battles. When it became clear that victory could not be attained by General Robert E. Lee and the Confederates, Lee made the painful decision to surrender. On April 9, 1865, at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia, Lee surrendered his men to Grant, and ended the horrible war. General U.S. Grant is available here on an ash colored t-shirt, hoodie or crewneck sweatshirt.
