Abraham Lincoln became President during tumultuous times, yet steadfastly led the country through the crisis of Civil War. Beloved and hated and ridiculed, he refused to let this land become two nations. After the Battle of Gettysburg, while dedicating the new cemetery for the Union soldiers killed there, he delivered a two minute speech that has become the most well-known piece of literature in this country.
