Up for sale is a wonderful antique German expressionist woodcut depicting a figure being whipped into the air against a city backdrop. This particular image came from a portfolio of 11 prints by German painter and printmaker Franz Beck 1893 - 1983. This was the only image not signed "Franz Beck" and is illegibly signed as seen low right. The portfolio contained works from 1919-1921 while he was attending the Hamburg School of Applied Arts which this is appears to date from the same period. Measuring approximately 7 x 7 inches the work is tacked front its top two corners down to heavier card stock measuring 8.5 x 8.25 inches.

Franz Beck was inspired by Emil Nolde as well as Leopold Graf von Kalckreuth, Heinrich Vogeler and close personal friends with wonderful Alfred Kubin. This image is on excellent condition showing only minimal signs of light handling but has never been framed or removed from the closed portfolio of works until now. The images provided accurately represent the quality, condition and aesthetic beauty of this early 20th century German expressionist woodcut but if you have any questions please feel free to ask prior to purchasing!
