Full calf leather boards have gilt rules, and with gilt lettering and decoration on spine. The boards are stamped with a small diamond pattern. Corners are bumped and worn. Covers are rubbed. Spine has a crease, and scant loss at ends. Joints are supple and uncracked, except for a quarter inch at top front. Binding is firm throughout. Ffep has a dampstain at top right corner that extends through the first thirty or so pages, but there is foxing and especially ink ghosting throughout. Text is still legible throughout. Reverse of the ffep and rear free endpaper have pencil scribbling/ doodling.
Two maps are present. Originally published in England, Clarke wrote a series of at least 11 books on travels throughout the three continents. These books are much more common in the English editions. This title is quite scarce, particularly in the American edition.
