“When I came back from [photographing] wars, I would immediately throw myself into my own personal journeys, like going to Bradford or Liverpool, or I’d head up to Scotland to do landscape photography. So I never had time to think about post-traumatic stress. This image strikes me for its alien lunar landscape; an environmental disaster which is so uncomfortably at odds with the presentation of this young mother pushing her shiny pram.” – Don McCullin

On the Horizon, features 120+ photographers and artists invited by Aperture and Magnum Photos. The photographers and artists contribute images that explore the edges of photographic practice, push the boundaries of what we know and see, and embrace the unknown. These photographs explore opportunity, aspiration and creativity in response to the unseen and unclear..

This collection of 120+ prints is available for one week only in this format. It represents the breadth and variety not only of the practices and outlooks within Magnum’s membership, but also of what photography can convey and capture.

The edition is not limited by quantity, but limited by time. It was only available for purchase between Monday October 18, 5 AM PST to Sunday October 24, 11:59 PM PST.

Magnum was founded in 1947 as an artists’ co-operative by four pioneering photographers; Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, David ‘Chim’ Seymour, and George Rodger. At its core, the legendary photo agency enables photographers to take back control of the copyright to their work. In essence, it allows the artists to have creative freedom. Each year, the Square Print Sale gives buyers the opportunity to buy signed archival-quality prints from a selection of these legendary photographers.

Sir Don McCullin was born in 1935 and grew up in a deprived area of north London. From the 1960s he forged a career as probably the UK’s foremost war photographer, covering events of global importance, including the Vietnam and Biafran wars for the Observer, and other publications. He has also consistently engaged with social documentary practice in cities across Britain as well as documenting the British landscape.
