When Carl Toms died in 1999, the Guardian newspaper acknowledged him as "The most sought-after and successful designer of his generation who left his stamp on theatre, the cinema, opera and the ballet.

This is a personal Greeting card (9.5" x 5") with a uniquely designed and produced artwork design by Toms of a Harlequin masked figure with the initials CT. I am assuming he had a limited number produced for his own personal use. Inside there is a simple printed 'Greetings' and a London address (presumably Toms at that time),, to which is added the inscription:

Dear Reg. love and best wishes, ever Carl (and another name added in different writing) & John.
