Welcome to my auction.

History of Bunraku

Ningyo Joruri Bunraku is one of Japan's representative traditional performing arts, a comprehensive art form that combines tayu, shamisen and puppets.
Its origins date back to the early Edo period (1603-1868), when it was first called puppet theater and then ningyo joruri.
The Gidayu verses of Takemoto Gidayu and the works of Chikamatsu Monzaemon made ningyo joruri very popular and it reached its zenith, leading to the establishment of the Takemoto-za. At the end of the Edo period, a troupe founded in Osaka by Bunrakuken Uemura of Awaji became the most influential and central troupe, and Bunraku eventually became synonymous with ningyo joruri.

Puppet

Bunraku puppets are unique in the world in that each puppet is manipulated by three puppeteers, expressing not only the subtle movements of the puppets, but also their emotions, making them more appealing than real human beings.
The puppets are stored separately, including their heads and costumes.
For each performance, a wig is attached to the head and tied up, and the puppeteer himself prepares the puppet with costumes, arms and legs, body, props, etc., to match the role.
