William Hutton & Sons Sheffield Plate Tureen c 1864.

This stylish antique oval Victorian William Hutton & Sons Silver Plated Tureen is an excellent example of the traditional design characteristics found in this type of silver serving platter. Presenting with a highly polished surface the item is in very good vintage condition with a lovely, beaded edging with some limited wear evident commensurate with age. This substantive service platter is 30 cm long and 25 cm wide and 1395 g is estimated to be c.1864 with twist removable handles to allow for the use of the top and the bottom of the platter for serving and easy storage. This functional design style continued well into the 20th century and was still being produced after the company was acquired by James Dixon in 1930. This example clearly identifies the makers hallmark but is without many of the marks which were later incorporated on Hutton plated items. The item was acquired as a part of the collection of Australian Ambassador William Fisher and is indicative of the quality you would expect of an avid silver collector. A fine example of a functional antique of this vintage from a highly desirable maker that would suit the fastidious collector or stylish homemaker.
