ANTIGUEDADES ELPIENNA

THE MELBOURNE YEAR 1880

Rare The Melbourne sewing machine, made around 1880.

This machine is very similar to The Windsor model, made by The Royal Sewing Machine & Co in England, but there are some differences between them. It is possible that it was a model of The Royal C0mpany for export, specifically for the Australian market, or perhaps it was made by a company in Australia. The differences between The Melbourne and The Windsor lie in the column next to the steering wheel, which is straight in one and curved in another, and in the area of the axis that holds the needle. The fact is that this copy is a very rare machine, of which we have not found another copy on the internet, we assume that there is another model in the hands of a museum or private collectors and even that they shed some light on this machine in question. .

The Melbourne was made of cast iron and enamelled in black. Completely decorated with geometric and plant scenes in gold and green. It preserves practically almost all the decoration, but it needs a little cleaning and polishing. Thus, all your drawings will look perfectly, and the black enamel will shine. If the machine is disassembled, the unpainted metal parts can also be polished and the machine will be spectacular. It is a job that can be done in 4 or 5 hours. It doesn't have the needle. The machine works, but when turning the crank, it goes a little hard. We assume that by cleaning and greasing it, it will work properly.
