Three volume collector's set of hardcover books in a matching slipcase, published in 1976 and written by the former PM of Canada. The books outline Diefenbaker's early life and achievements in Ottawa, and include illustrations and photographs that are all part of his memoirs. Each of the three volumes has been signed with his striking and unique signature. The three books are: The Crusading Years 1895-1956, 298 pages; The Years of Achievement 1957-1962, 330 pages; and The Tumultuous Years 1962-1967, 308 pages. The inside of both the front and back covers of the first book are illustrated with scenes from his early life (photos 14 and 15), and those of the second book are illustrated with the historic Canadian Bill of Rights (photos 16). There were no dust covers issued. The covers and the matching slipcase are bound in blue cloth with gold lettering on the spines and on either side of the slipcase. These books have been well-protected and are in excellent condition – no tears, no damaged corners or edges, no creases, virtually no signs of age or wear. They have had a place of honor in our home for the past 47 years along with Diefenbaker's personal correspondence with my in-laws. The 3 volume set was printed in Canada by Hunter Rose for MacMillan of Canada, as indicated on the copyright page. If interested, please contact me about a 1975 1-ounce commemorative coin struck in honor of Diefenbaker’s 80th birthday, and/or a Wellings bronze Diefenbaker medallion commemorating his years in office and Canada’s centennial (shown in last photo) - these are not included with the sale of this set of books.
