Sydney Long A.R.E. was an important, influential Australian Symbolist and pioneering Printmaker. He was an exceptionally fine etcher, but also developed a name for himself painting stylized Australian bush landscapes. Influenced by Heidelberg School artists such as Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin, he pioneered a new style of Australian paganism and Art Nouveau, creating a mythical and poetic vision of the Australian bush. His paintings and etchings are widely represented in all major Australian Galleries and several English collections.
